You know when someone shares a technique or exercise they do with you, and as soon as you hear it, your brain says YES!
That happened to me the other day. A woman shared something that a coach she had years ago told her to do. It goes like this:
Imagine that trust is leading the way, guiding you and clearing the path ahead.
I was really struck with this notion, of envisioning trust blanketing everything and everyone, as opposed to feeling guarded or on alert.
The next day, I tried it. I was walking through the city on my way to visit a friend, and imagined trust like a red carpet rolling out ahead of me, up the sidewalk.
I’m not sure that anything changed, but I did feel more relaxed and safe.
And as I was walking up the road, on the trust path, I found myself silently saying a blessing I learned years ago, only I substituted in the word trust:
Trust is a major issue for lots of us.
We lack basic trust from childhood trauma, from having insecure attachment issues. As adults, we have to re-parent ourselves to feel safe and secure in our relationships, in the world, as well as with source/god/love.
This work is a re-orientation from fear to love, from anxiety to peace.
Doing my red carpet of trust exercise acts as a bridge, if you like, to return me again and again to peace. That regardless of what my mind wants me to think, I am indeed safe.
I’ve decided to keep doing it, too, this trust exercise. Imagining that trust is rolling out in front of me, leading me safely everywhere I need to go.
