Sometimes when I find myself dragging, or avoiding taking action, I remind myself of this quote:
It often gets me going.
How about you?
Is there a technique you use to help?
One way to explore this idea is through inquiry:
What would you prefer? The pain of discipline or the pain of regret?
Perhaps that seems like a curious way to say it, but if we truly want to succeed at anything, we have to be willing to put in the time.
Another way to think about this is the willingness to persevere, to keep going, to return to it again and again and again.
In whatever you want to achieve - a new job, writing a book, or becoming an expert skier- it all takes commitment and time on task.
When we don’t have the discipline to actually move ahead in our lives, we often feel regret. I’ve written about regret before because for me, it is a giant motivator.
One of the ways I use it, is like this: If I died tomorrow, or if this loved one died tomorrow, would I regret not doing or saying something?
This question keeps me honest and forthright and ensures that – to the best of my ability- I am living in integrity with myself and my truth because the last thing I want to feel is regret!
Perhaps you are stuck on my use of the word pain. If so, think about it this way, growth requires change which can sometimes feel uncomfortable. You’re moving into the unknown. You could be rejected or hurt.
Yet, to stay stuck is to actually move backward.
So how about it?
How can you add some discipline in your life and tackle that list you’ve been avoiding?
What might that look and feel like?
Why not try it and see?
I know you’ll succeed beyond your wildest imagination!
