Have you ever thought about the unique track of your life and your experiences as being tailor made just for you?
It’s kind of a radical idea, one I learned from the Manual for Teachers, which is part of A Course In Miracles (ACIM).
In it, it says that in our journey to God, we have,
“[A] curriculum [that] is highly individualized, and all aspects [of it] are under the Holy Spirit's particular care and guidance.”
When I first read this, I smiled.
In part because when I worked as classroom teacher, that’s exactly what I did. Identified each student’s talents, abilities and needs and individualized the academic program to support them.
In truth, this is how we all live our lives!
Each of us interprets and processes information in our own way, and this informs our decisions.
Right?
And it’s no different with the spiritual journey.
Looking at our path to God/Divine Consciousness through the lens of having an individualized curriculum helps:
1. Release Judgment
Our minds are hardwired to compare, to look at what’s missing, to see lack and inadequacy.
Viewing your spiritual journey through the lens of having a unique experience / curriculum / set of opportunities and challenges, helps ease up on judging your process and progress.
Make sense?
Here’s what I mean.
How can you compare yourself to someone else and their progress if you aren’t even on the same road or taking the same test?
If everything you experience is catered to your needs, then you are getting what is best for your optimal growth, as am I.
So why judge your progress or seeming lack thereof?
Relax into the Timeline
Another benefit of accepting the notion that you have a unique curriculum, is that you are on your own timeline.
Your path is different than your friend’s, your neighbor’s, even your spouse!
Let go of your fears that you’re missing out or going too slowly.
Everything that is happening is catered to you and for you.
Slow down, enjoy and take your time.
Life is For Me
Another way the concept of an individualized curriculum can help, is to re-enforce the idea that every single thing that you experience in your life is happening for you, for your learning, healing, and insight.
Yes, this can feel a bit daunting.
Perhaps the invitation for us is to be curious and ask-
What is this relationship for?
What is this situation for?
Curiosity can provide clarity.
Take a step back from your life. Inquire.
What is this unique adventure of my life trying to tell me?
Can I release judgment? Impatience? Victimhood?
What might that take?
What if everything that is happening is for my own good?
Could I surrender into that?
Play around with this idea that your life path is unique to you. Use these 3 practices to help. Allow yourself to be curious. And see what happens.
