10 Ways to Cultivate Inner Peace

Recently, I received an email from a woman who told me she was struggling with life challenges, and yearned for more inner peace.

Can you relate?

It might sound counterintuitive, but the most successful way to experience peace is to cultivate it within our own beings.

We think that our focus needs to be on external strife- on conflicts in our communities, aggression among nations- and while it is important to work for justice and world peace, it is even more critical to develop that quality within ourselves.

So, how do you foster peace within?

Here are 10 Ideas for You

1. Take your Inner Pulse

What are you feeling and experiencing right now? No matter what it is, can you have compassion for where you are? In other words, can you hold all of your feelings (sadness, rage, angst…) with love?

2. Reconnect to the Truth of Who You Are

As we accept every part of us, every feeling we’re having, we open to the opportunity to come back to who we really are, which is LOVE.

3.  The World is Here for You

If it is true that the world is an effect, then we are creating our current situation. How can you bless what you are experiencing and ask to be shown a new way?

4. Tap into Joy

What would it mean for you to connect to your happy place? What would you do? Where might you go?

5. Return to the Present

The mind is always wanting to project into a scary future scenario or dwell on a past upset. Instead, can you re-focus your awareness to right now?

One simple way to do that is with deep breaths. Another is to exercise. Can you incorporate these into your daily routine?

6. Cultivate a Spiritual Practice

What aspect of stillness appeals to you? Is it meditation? Deep relaxation? Both? Try a new format of either and see if it helps you feel more peaceful.

7. Nature

Going for a walk in the woods, a garden, or along the water’s edge can instantly bring us into a more peaceful place.

Where can you go that will feel healing and nurturing to you?

8.  Foster Gratitude

Having a gratitude practice can really help quiet the mind and return you to a more peaceful state.

What are 5 things you are grateful for in your life right now?

9. Nurture You

Self care can be interpreted as selfish or over indulgent, but the truth is, we can’t really take care of anyone else until we genuinely care for ourselves. So what is one way you could really, truly nurture yourself?

10.  Kindness

Kindness gets so completely under-rated! And yet, it makes an enormous difference. What’s one way you can be kinder to yourself today? And how can you show kindness to another person?

Additionally, I have a guided meditation to help you both connect to that space of inner peace and cultivate it. It’s called “Expereince genuine Peace, #77. Why not give it a try?
