Recently I had a conversation with someone who told me he wanted to live openheartedly.
In truth, don’t we all?
The question is how…
We can certainly experience heart opening moments, but how do we sustain that space every moment of every day?
Whenever I think about opening my heart, I ALWAYS see an image of Lord Hanuman in my mind’s eye .
If you’re not familiar with this Hindu god, he is the one who looks like a monkey and is known as the servant to God/Love for he has devoted his life to serve Lord Rama.
In India, there are more temples to Lord Hanuman than any other deity!
One of Hanuman’s core messages is to live open heartedly. To this end, he is often depicted pulling apart his chest to reveal his heart (in which we can typically see the imag of Lord Rama and his wife Sita.)
Here’s a picture of what I’m talking about. This image sits on my home altar.
The question for us then is:
how can we embody this energy and willingly open our hearts like Lord Hanuman?
One way is conscious breathing.
Stopping and breathing in and out of our heart chakra in the center of our chests.
I’ve created a guided meditation to walk you through this practice.
You can try it here, podcast #73 entitled Breath Work for Living Open Heartedly
Be sure to let me know how it goes AND if you know someone who could benefit from this practice, forward them the podcast!
