We are here to co-create our world
Humans have been called lots of things: thinkers, consumers, tax payers, doers, citizens… and despite being all of those labels too, we are creators.
Regardless of what form that takes:
Being an entrepreneur
Creating a gorgeous Instagram account
Making luscious meals
Drawing illustrations
Being an incredible parent
Writing computer code
Finishing a novel
Designing a t-shirt
Implementing a killer marketing plan
Composing a piece of music
It’s all creation.
Like you, it’s been in my blood all along.
My house is cozy and welcoming, I’ve always been a good cook. I adore being a mother, and had so much fun developing curriculum for my students.
But underneath it all, I’ve always desired to be a writer -since I was a teenager, only I knew I wasn’t self-disciplined enough. So in my early 20s, I became a teacher, and then lots of other things.
But in 2011, I finally took the leap and began to write.
It was a year after my sister, Melissa had died and I was away from my children, from my house, from my job. I was in New Hampshire with my husband who was attending a summer program all day, everyday. For the first time in over 15 years, I was completely alone with nothing to do and no one to care for!
And I wondered, who am I when I’m not taking care of other people?
I kept feeling this call – write, write, but I was scared. I didn’t know how, I wasn’t any good, and anyway, what should I write about?
After reading 3 novels in a week, I finally mustered enough courage to begin. Everything I wrote was crap. I had no focus. I’d start then stop.
Finally, frustrated and despairing, I lay on the hardwood floor in the hallway and sobbed. And then I heard my sister whisper, “tell our story.”
I had a place to start.
I began writing – about her, about my travels, about my family…
That gave me a basis from which I extrapolated a memoir about my spiritual awakening and the work I did with Ma Jaya, my spiritual teacher / guru, called Run the Other Way.
Since then, I continue to write and have published a blog for over ten years on my websites.
I also finished a 2nd memoir. This one about facing Covid, dying, dementia while living with A Course in Miracles mentor, Tom Carpenter in March, 2020. My working title is: Love Lives Here: Facing the Uncertainty of Covid 19, Dying & Dementia with a beloved Course in Miracles Mentor
Lastly, I have completed the first YA epic fantasy book in what will be a trilogy. Stay tuned to learn more!
I do visual art projects too!
From printmaking to baskets, to jewelry to sculpture.
