Ready for Your 2nd Chance?

Today is my grandson’s birthday. It also happens to be the day my sister was born. (She died in 2010.)

Two years ago, when my grandson arrived looking like my sister and me (blond hair and blue eyes), it felt like a circle had been completed. I wrote about that experience and you can read it here.

As I contemplate the miracle of this day, I find my mind ruminating on the idea of repeating patterns and do-overs. The way life keeps circling people, experiences, and things around to us again and again much like the changing of the seasons.

In part, my mental wanderings are fueled by a college friend who recently reached out after many years, suggesting he may move close by. I find myself wondering about the rekindling of a friendship, about life’s seasonal shifts.

What’s bubbling up is the idea that nothing is ever truly finished.

It’s easy to imagine that things die, or end, or fall away. We get divorced, a loved one passes, and yet on some level they never truly leave us. Instead, the relationships are being reshaped, reborn, recreated.

Energy, after all is neither created nor destroyed.

Which means that we always get another chance, another go, another opportunity to right a wrong, to achieve a goal, to try again.

If we take a moment and step back from our lives to examine the patterns of it more objectively, we may be able to see this – how people and situations revolve and cycle around us for our own learning and healing.

How life continually offers us 2nd, 3rd and 4th chances.

That nothing is ever truly lost.

I find solace in this idea, solace and redemption. Because let’s face it, this being human is work! Yet within it is immense beauty, and magic and inspiration.

So, here’s to you, to your 2nd chances, to your willingness to keep growing and moving and unfolding, day after day, into the magnificence of who you are.
