A New Way To View Your Life's Purpose

When I lived in Hong Kong in the 1990s, one of my closest friends was a painter. And whenever I’d get too insular, too focused on the nuts and bolts of my life’s journey, she’d remind me to “view the mountain from the plain.”

As you walk this spiritual path, it can be easy get consumed with looking at your feet, at the rocks and puddles along the way, and forget to take in the larger expanse, the view!

Why not do that right now?

Take a moment to zoom out. View your life’s journey from afar.

Where are you?

What have you accomplished thus far?

Part of why I appreciate her words is that they help us to remember to honor ourselves and the journey we have already undertaken.

Instead of always focusing on what’s ahead or what we have yet to do, we can appreciate and acknowledge what has already come to pass.

Breathe in another moment and allow all of that in too.

Really take a good look at everything that has transpired in your life. The friendships, the love, the family, the pets, the vacations, the experiences, the homes…

It’s A LOT!

Now – one more- how about another moment to reflect on what you’ve been dreaming in to for your 2023?

How do your ideas about 2023 fit in with the greater plan for your life?

Can you see the connection?

The continuation?

Or is this year wanting you to take a complete zag in an entirely new direction?

Whichever way, the most important question to ask yourself as you endeavor onward is- Does this feel right?

If you get a resounding YES, then you know you’re on the right track. If not, you might want to think again.

Whenever I come to this space of contemplation and am willing to drill into it, the answer is ALWAYS the same.

I’m either feeling fear and contracting/reacting to a future anxiety OR I am expanding into possibility.

What do you feel?

The invitation is to keep dreaming into your life – and trust that it will come.

You already are everything you seek.
