An Easy Strategy for Living A Balanced Life
Recently I remembered a concept that initially came to me years ago, that we have 4 different quadrants of self:
Mind, or intellect
Emotions
Physical Body
Spirit
What I realized, was that it’s easier to inhabit some of these quadrants than others. Do you agree?
Think about yourself for a moment.
Are you the kind of person who defaults to focusing on your feelings and why you’re experiencing them? Do you find it easy to delve into your motivations or reactions to life? If so, perhaps your primary comfort zone is the emotional quadrant.
Are you at your best when you’re physically active? Maybe you pursue jobs that get you moving or you enjoy physically exercise. You’re likely most in the zone in the body quadrant.
Perhaps you relish acquiring knowledge and information. You’re an avid reader, frequently sign up for courses, and enjoy podcasts. The intellect quadrant is a place of familiarity.
Are you most at home connecting to spirit, through church or temple activities, being in nature or meditating? Then you find comfort in the spiritual quadrant.
Whichever your preference, (there is no right or wrong) there are also quadrants that are more uncomfortable to reside in.
Do you avoid talking about your feelings? Have you suffered anxiety in school because studying is difficult? Maybe you loathe physical exercise or dismiss spirituality as too woo-woo.
Try to rank yourself - choose the quadrants with which you are most comfortable to least.
When I did this, I discovered that the quadrants I felt the least desire to be in, were the areas of my life I was avoiding. And these areas were actively sabotaging me.
To put it another way, in order to come into balance, I was being asked to bring love and light to every part of me, even if it made me feel insecure or uncomfortable.
That’s how we experience balance in our lives.
That’s when we feel the best.
That’s how we access our true nature.
Willing to give it a try?
In this time of change, the invitation is to let go of those parts of ourselves that may be holding us back or are actively preventing us from experiencing innate joy and satisfaction.
Be brave, go into those places you’ve been ignoring.
You know which quadrants they are.
It might feel scary, but there are no monsters there.
Instead, you may encounter a little girl or boy who needs encouragement and love. You may discover an aspect of yourself that doesn’t feel worthy of love.
Can you love it anyway?
Will you accept that part of you?
Even if you feel afraid, can you step into that quadrant and occupy it?
If you are willing, you will be truly amazed at the results.
