What Feeds You?

The other day I was talking to a young woman who’s been living in the city for a while. On a work trip recently she visited a sleepy town surrounded by national forest. While there, she realized the city was no longer feeding her.

More and more I hear that. And it echoes my own experiences.

I crave nature- trees, water, silence.

How about you?

When life pulls at you, demanding your time and energy, it’s SO easy to feel depleted. Then what do you do? Sleep for a week? Binge watch Netflix?

Instead, think about what FEEDS you?

For some of us, it’s creativity. And choosing art activities. For my father, it was opera! Sometimes he'd call me after a performance and he was so blissed out, he often sounded high.

For others, it’s movement. Think dancing, surfing, sailing, horseback riding...

For some, stillness.

What is it for you?

If you’re not sure, try a bunch of different activities – nature hikes, visiting a garden, dancing or doing yoga, making something with your hands, going to a play or musical, even the ballet, a boat ride...

After each activity, check in with yourself.

How do you feel? Energized or depleted?

Grade each one so you know how that experience was for you.

Once you’ve taken inventory, see how you can regularly schedule the UPLIFTING activities into your life.

You want to feel energized, fed and truly engaged, don't you?

After all - this is it- your ONE extraordinary life. If you don’t celebrate it, cherish it and feed your soul now, when will you?
